In the controversy surrounding GM, GM recently talked to lawyers of some of the families that are asserting wrongful death and personal injury claims against GM.  The families making product liability claims against GM are asserting that GM sold vehicles that had faulty ignition switches.  The defective switches can, if jostled, shut off power in a moving car, disabling air bags and impeding power steering and braking systems.  GM has acknowledged that there is a problem with the switches and issued a recall.
